Introducing Missy Werner. Born, raised, and a resident of the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky area, Missy has carved a niche in the region as a respected vocalist and musician. In an era where many performers are frequently compared to others, she has developed a distinctive, easily recognizable voice. Whether performing a hard hitting traditional song or a tender ballad, she makes the adjustment and delivers.
Missy formed her touring band after recording a 2009 solo project, “Drifting and Dreaming”, one that gained her a large amount of national and worldwide attention. That same band remains intact today. Their late 2011 album release, “Three Kinds of Lonesome”, also received excellent reviews from the industry. It was on the list of most downloaded Bluegrass albums on AirPlay Direct in 2012 and she currently ranks #8 on their all-time list of Bluegrass downloads, and was #22 on The Roots Music Report Top Bluegrass albums of 2012. Her latest album, “Turn This Heart Around” featuring her band and also well respected colleagues was released last year, with two singles from that project making the Bluegrass Today Weekly Airplay chart. Although only out for six months, the album still managed to garner #23 on the Roots Music Report Top Bluegrass albums of 2014.
The band has developed tight trio and quartet harmonies designed to specifically compliment her voice. Her cast of veteran musicians includes Tim Strong, who plays rhythm and lead guitar and is also an accomplished mandolinist. Jeff Roberts is the banjo picker. He has performed nationally with many well known artists and is one of the most respected in the area. Also a teacher, many of his students continue to perform today. Artie Werner is the bass player and also Missy’s husband of twenty-three years. They met while working at a show and were wed a short few months later. Fiddle player Suzanna Barnes is an exceptional talent who compliments the band sound with her tastefully executed solos and perfectly placed backup playing.
