With Poor Boy’s Pleasure, their sixth album overall and first for Mountain Fever Records, Junior Sisk & Ramblers Choice have perhaps outdone themselves. From beginning to end – from the opening barn-burner of a moonshine song, “Lonnie Ray,” to the hard-driving rendition of the classic “Ain’t Gonna Work Tomorrow” that closes the album – the multi-award winning group never lets up. This is traditional bluegrass the way it should be played.

Since the album’s release in May 2016, it has already racked up quite a number of accolades. After debuting at number 2 on the Billboard Bluegrass chart, it has made several reappearances in the Top 10. Poor Boy’s Pleasure has also worked its way up the Bluegrass Unlimited National Bluegrass Survey, having spent five straight months on the chart as of November 2016. Five songs from the album have made appearances in the Bluegrass Today Weekly Top 20. Lead single “Longneck Blues,” a rollicking duet with singer-songwriter Ronnie Bowman penned by Mike O’Reilly, has found favor with broadcasters, fans, and industry leaders. It debuted at number one on the Bluegrass Today weekly chart, and has consistently made appearances in the Top 20 since its release. In September 2016, the song reached number one on the Bluegrass Unlimited National Bluegrass Survey. “Longneck Blues” also won Recorded Event of the Year at the 2016 International Bluegrass Music Awards.

Junior Sisk & Ramblers Choice are widely recognized as one of today’s premier traditional bluegrass bands. Sisk’s bluegrass pedigree runs deep – hailing from the Virginia Blue Ridge, he first made his mark as a songwriter in the early 1990s. Several years later, as a member of Wyatt Rice & Santa Cruz and Blueridge, he helped define the sound of driving, modern traditional bluegrass. Sisk founded Ramblers Choice in 1998, releasing Sounds of the Mountains on Rounder Records. After a brief hiatus, he reformed the group and began a successful career with Rebel Records.

His 2011 album Heart of a Song helped bring the band into the spotlight and reminded bluegrass fans of the power of tradition. The album’s single “A Far Cry from Lester and Earl” became a rallying cry for a resurgence of traditional sounds in bluegrass and received the 2012 Song of the Year award from the IBMA. The band was further honored when Heart of a Song received IBMA Album of the Year. More recently, Sisk was honored with the 2013 Male Vocalist of the Year award from the IBMA, and the group was named 2014 SPBGMA Bluegrass Band of the Year.
