“The Gilberts Band” name came from the husband and wife duo of JP and Tamara Gilbert not knowing what to call themselves when booking gigs. But the band really began in earnest when they had kids and wanted to make sure the children heard good music. JP and Tamara share a common thread in the music of Norman Blake, the Stanley Brothers, the Skillet Lickers, The Blue Sky Boys, Roscoe Holcomb, Cliff Edwards, and old time fiddle tunes. JP and Tamara are known to sometimes play some Hawaiian music and/or yodel. Driven by close harmony singing and high energy picking, The Gilberts forge a roots music that is steeped in tradition but is still filled with newness and vitality.
