Ray Edwards – Portrait Of A Bluegrass Songwriter

Portrait Of A Bluegrass Songwriter is due July 31 from Ray Edwards, on Rural Rhythm’s new Sage Brush Music imprint.

Sage Brush was formed specifically to showcase talented songwriters in bluegrass, and got its unofficial launch with Look To The Light: Songs From The Pen of Rick Lang in 2010. Portrait Of A Bluegrass Songwriter will be the first release under the Sage Brush name.

Like its predecessor, Edwards’ CD will feature a full album of his compositions and co-writes, performed by top bluegrass artists and his Rural Rhythm label mates. The opening track is actually a previously released recording, Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out’s Hard Rock Prison ‘Till I Die, and the rest are newly cut offerings from Grasstowne, Nu-Blu, Monroeville, Jeanette Williams, Special Consensus, Darrell Webb, Carolina Road, and Lou Reid.

There are also three songs performed by Ray and his own band, Hard Rock Mountain, one of which features Don Rigsby, and a track by Edwards with Keith Pyrtle of Grasstowne.

Though Edwards is a bluegrass boy at heart, he has worked with country artists like Travis Tritt, Lynn Anderson and Sammy Kershaw, and has had songs cut by George Jones and Tom T. Hall. In the bluegrass world, he is a two-time banjo champ as well as a songwriter.

Portrait of A Bluegrass Songwriter won’t ship until July 31, but pre-orders are enabled now on the Rural Rhythm web store.

A debut single, My Name Is Jimmy Martin, is available now to radio programmers from Airplay Direct.
