Sizemore documentary on IndieGoGo

The Herschel Sizemore documentary film project to which we alluded back in February continues apace.

With a working title of Herschel Sizemore: A Mandolin in B, producer/director Rick Bowman has created a crowd sourcing campaign at indiegogo to raise funds to complete the filming and begin editing this feature-length movie about one of bluegrass music’s enduring mandolin icons.

Herschel is on any mandolinist’s Most Influential Players list, along with Bill Monroe, Jesse McReynolds and Bobby Osborne. Sizemore, Osborne and McReynolds began the process of refining and developing the bluegrass mandolin style laid down by Big Mon himself, with Herschel having perhaps the greatest impact on the sort of melodic playing that is in fashion among today’s players.

A Mandolin in B tells his story through a series of interviews with Sizemore, many of his contemporaries like Del and Jerry McCoury, and a number of younger artists who have felt his influence, like Chris Thile.

Here’s a look at the crowd sourcing trailer Rick has put together.
