We, The Fabulous Bagasse Boyz…………………..

“We, *The Fabulous Bagasse Boyz*, do solemnly swear to uphold the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, and the Constitution and laws of the State of Louisiana, and that we will faithfully and impartially, discharge and perform, all of the duties incumbent upon us, according to the best of our ability and understanding, so help us God.”

And with that, The Fabulous Bagasse Boyz have become the only bluegrass band in history to take the Oath of Office. We haven’t figured out what office yet but surely there must be some office out there that would be appropriate for us. And we figure the line about ”
. . . to the best of our ability . . .” will get us out of any real responsibility. We were inspired to throw our collective hats into the political ring after playing for and jamming with the newly elected Attorney General of Louisiana, our pal and closest friend (well . . .
that might be stretching it just a bit) James D. “Buddy” Caldwell last evening at a pre-inaugural bash at The Sheraton Hotel. You might ask “Who in their right minds would have invited those goobers to a hoity toity event like that?” We can’t really go into details but suffice it to say that it involved some calls on untraceable cell phones, clandestine meetings in parking garages with men in trench coats and the passing of documents in plain brown bags. Everyone involved had a great time and we really enjoyed jamming with Doc, Alan, Joel and Heather of *The Fugitive Poets* and all the other real musicians that participated. And if you didn’t know it before, “Buddy” Caldwell does a mean Elvis impersonation. Thanks to Bob Downing and hosts The Dawson’s for including us in the event.

And if you want to see *The Fabulous Bagasse Boyz *in their own post-inaugural event you can come to *Tasty Ribs & Things,*
16569 George O’Neal Rd., Baton Rouge, 70817, Phone: 225-753-1099, this Friday starting at 6:30 PM. Thomas and Effie Durst have been supporting bluegrass and *The Boyz* for three years now so how about the bluegrass community in Baton Rouge coming out and supporting them. The food is great, the atmosphere is warm and inviting and the music is only mildly annoying, some come on out this Friday. Willi intends to use this as an opportunity to make a major foreign policy speech on world market fluctuations in the price of M & M’s. Don’t miss it!

And on Saturday, *The Boyz* will be playing at a private 50th birthday party for undisclosed persons at an undisclosed location. But the next Saturday, January 26th, *The Fabulous Bagasse Boyz* will be playing at Columbia, MS at the Columbia Expo Center for the Magnolia State Bluegrass Association’s Winter Show. Also appearing will be Bluff Creek, Southern Blend, Harold and Ovaline Andrews, Lott’s Bluff, The Jason Boone Band, High Lonesome Bluegrass, Long Way To Go, Mississippi Bluegrass and Music Barn Band. Shows start at 6:00 PM on Friday and 12:00 PM on Saturday.
