Tomorrow from Niall Toner

Pinecastle has dropped a debut single from Niall Toner’s upcoming CD, which should be available by the time that Toner makes the trek from his native Ireland to the US for IBMA in the Fall.

Niall tells us that that the song, Tomorrow, came from his own musings on its theme of mañana.

“I was on a writing trip to Nashville a couple of years ago, and my wife and I were staying at Spence Manor on Music Row. I had been writing with Keith Sewell [Ricky Skaggs Band/Dixie Chicks/Sam Bush/Lyle Lovett] and we were working on songs at Spence. My wife, Moira, and Keith’s wife, Wendy, went on a shopping trip, leaving Keith and I with the instructions to ‘have a new song finished by the time we get back.’

I had always been fascinated by the Latin word, ‘Procrastinator,’ meaning the kind of person who keeps putting off until tomorrow what should be done today. That’s where the ‘nub’ of this song came from. When our wives returned with our worn-out Credit cards, we had written Tomorrow. I believe it was worth it !

I recorded Tomorrow with Shawn Pody at the Podium Studios near Nashville in October 2011, with Wendy Buckner on backing vocals, and it is one of the songs which will be on my debut Album for Pinecastle Records, Onwards and Upwards, due for release in Fall 2012.

I guess it could be classified as Acoustic Country/Bluegrass ………..”

We’ll have more details about the next album as they are revealed.

UPDATE 11:05 – Niall just reminded me that Tomorrow, plus two other songs from Onwards and Upwards (Too Many Guitars and Planxty Kilbranish) are available for download to radio programmers at Airplay Direct.
