The Christmas 45 – Becky Buller

The Christmas 45 - Becky Buller2015 has been a good year for Becky Buller. After starting a new career as a solo performing artist, she has found rapid success in that new role, including being selected as Emerging Artist of the Year from her peers in the International Bluegrass Music Association.

And now to cap off her year, Becky has released a special digital Christmas EP, or as she bills it, The Christmas 45 – Vol. 1. She calls it a 45 in tribute to the pre-Internet age method of sending a pair of songs to market on a 45 RPM vinyl disc, with a primary or “A” side, and a secondary “B” side.

Here Buller offers two clever new songs she’s co-written, one a religious meditation on the Christmas season, and the other a light and fluffy children’s song of treats and sweets. Each is perfectly appropriate to it’s type, lovingly performed by Becky and her Nashville pals.

The A side is The Savior Is Born, written with Delia Topping Boost, and recorded in a contemporary bluegrass style. It tells the nativity story as a celebration of the miracle of God stepping into the human condition. A truly joyous song, expect this one to be a holiday staple for many years to come. It’s already one of my new favorites.

On the “flip side,” is Our Gingerbread House, sung in the person of a young girl imagining her perfect home when she’s married with children of her own. You can’t imagine a sweeter song to teach your youngsters, and Becky offers it as a mid-tempo waltz. This one was written with Lisa Ashmann which Buller says came out of a session designed to create a new Christmas song a la Marshmallow World.

Assisting are Ned Luberecki on banjo, Brandon Bostic on guitar, Daniel Hardin on bass, and Nate Lee on mandolin. Becky sings lead and plays fiddle with harmony vocals from Stephen Mougin and Daniel Hardin.

With The Christmas 45 you can exercise both sides of your Christmas brain. Look for it at popular download sites, and on the Dark Shadow Recording site.

Radio programmers can download the two tracks from Airplay Direct.

Becky is even hosting a fun holiday photo contest where everyone is invited to post their favorite gingerbread house pictures at the Dark Shadow Facebook page. Each Friday they will pick a winner to receive an autographed CD of this album, something not available to the general public.
