Songwriter to Songwriter: Missy Armstrong
Last week during World of Bluegrass, David Morris caught up with Missy Armstrong, lead vocalist and one of two primary songwriters with Michigan’s fast-rising Detour.
As part of David’s Songwriter to Songwriter series, they talked about how she wrote the song Lovin’ Liza Jane, included on Detour’s current album, A Better Place.

Is David Morris a songwriter?
Well, Poser to Songwriter didn’t have quite the same ring. But seriously, I have four songs under contract and many others that I’m pitching, including one I co-wrote during WOB with one of the most-recorded writers in bluegrass. So while i haven’t caught up to Tom T. and Dixie, I’m working on it.
Can Tony pick the flattop? You bet David Morris is a songwriter! Like all but a very few songwriters, he lurks in relative obscurity while the performing artists bask in all the riches and glory (or whatever passes for riches and glory in the Bluegrass world). Still, he’s written some powerful stuff and you’ll be hearing more from him.
In the meantime, here’s a sample of David’s fine writing: http://youtu.be/k4N8BsQpm7w.
Absolutely – David is a great songwriter. I had the wonderful experience of listening to one of David’s songs that is being cut next spring – it is really really good.
I also got to “turn the tables” on him and interview him at WOB. He is the real deal and the coolest guy – red Chuck’s and all.
(And I especially like this interview with Missy.)
Good to know — thanks everyone!
