Service for Ray Hicks this weekend

ray_hicksWe heard yesterday from Gina Hicks, the late Ray Hicks’ daughter, who wanted to share that any friends of his in Virginia/North Carolina who wished to make the trip were welcome to attend the private family service and internment for Ray on Saturday.

Though Ray was known in bluegrass mostly for his promotional and radio work in Missouri, his people are from Virginia, not far from Lynchburg. The family has delayed the services until now to allow members time to travel from across the country back to their old home place.

Gina, for example, lives in Hawaii.

“Dad used to love to come visit me. We went to see some real nice live bluegrass: a group called the Saloon Pilots who play regularly on Oahu, and also just some local musicians who just like to get together and jam.

The interment will be at our Hicks family cemetery near Evington, Virginia. We have hired Whitten Funeral Home to provide the graveside services.

The old family farm is located at 2482 Evington Rd., it’s been in the Hicks family since the 1800’s, at least five generations. I know my great grandfather was born there. For lack of better directions, I’ve been told to take 460 to 811 to 709, once we cross into Campbell County then it’s three quarters of a mile ahead and on the right-hand side. The old stone walls are about 15 feet off the road.”

Services are scheduled for Saturday (1/24) at 1:00 p.m.
