Rob Ickes on Guitar Player cover

Event Details

The August issue of Guitar Player magazine has bluegrass music’s own Rob Ickes right there on the cover, where you’ll more commonly find a metalhead with a threatening grimace. You can find the magazine on newsstands across the US, and in a good many music stores.

Ron said that the cover feature came about after Guitar Player gave very favorable reviews to the last Blue Highway album (from The Window Of A Train) and the first release from Three Ring Circle, a side instrumental trio project of Rob’s, along with Andy Leftwich on mandolin/fiddle and Rob Pomeroy on bass.

“So we sent them a copy of the new Brothership CD, and the editor called me and said that I would be on the cover! This is the first time ever for a Dobro player on the cover, and they presented the instrument in a very complimentary way. I am very happy with the article.”

The piece includes a nice overview of Ickes’ prodigious career, and some kind words about the new Three Ring Circle Project. But Rob admits he was a bit concerned about seeing himself on the cover of such a prestigious publication.

“I told the photographer to try and make me look as cool as possible!”

Rob is also stoked about the new Blue Highway album, Sounds Of Home, set for an August 23 release on Rounder.

“They aren’t widely available yet, but the band has copies for sale. You can pick one up at any of our shows, or from the Blue Highway web site.

We are running a pre-release special now where you can get either an autographed copy or free shipping with any online orders placed before August 23.”

It’s a good month for Rob Ickes.
