Ralph Stanley on The Late Show

Ralph StanleyAmong the many luminaries trouping to New York to pay tribute to David Letterman as he prepares to retire from television is Dr. Ralph Stanley, who is scheduled to appear on The Late Show, Thursday, April 30.

Dr. Ralph says that he was pleased to be asked.

“I’m very honored that I was asked to appear on one of Letterman’s last shows. I’ve watched his program down through the years and I’ve enjoyed his work. This will make three times that I have had the opportunity to perform on his show. My grandson, Nathan Stanley will join me this time and we are looking forward to it.”

Stanley makes only very rare television appearances, so bluegrass fans may want to set up their DVRs if they don’t make a habit of staying up late.

The Letterman show airs at 11:35 p.m., with musical guests typically appearing in the final segment of the program, somewhere around 12:25, though the format is subject to change.

His final new show is scheduled to air on May 20, 2015.
