Ralph Stanley is 88 years young

Ralph Stanley - photo by Dave HollenderToday is a special day in bluegrass music, the 88th birthday of the great Ralph Stanley. And with 68 years of touring behind him, what will he be doing to celebrate?

Ralph will be taking his Clinch Mountain Boys to Nashville for two nights on the Grand Ole Opry this weekend. He’ll perform on both the Friday and Saturday night Opry along with some of the top entertainers in bluegrass and country music.

On the Friday show, Stanley will close in the first segment of the show, from 8:00-8:30 p.m. (EST). Also appearing will be Ricky Skaggs and The Whites, Vince Gill, Roy Clark and Riders In The Sky, later in the show. Then on Saturday evening, he’ll be featured in the 9:15-9:45 segment (EST) in a show that also includes Bobby Osborne, Mike Snider, John Conlee and Jim Ed Brown.

Both shows will be broadcast on WSM 650 AM. You can listen live at either wsmonline.com or opry.com.
