Pete jokes, while Steve plays it straight

As it always seems to do, video has surfaced of Steve Martin’s acceptance of a Distinguished Achievement Award during last week’s World of Bluegrass business conference in Raleigh, NC. Steve was honored for his lifetime of support for bluegrass music, and his recent career turn towards being a full-time writer, performing, and touring artist with banjo in hand.

His appearance took something of an odd form. Following equally heartfelt presentations of similar awards to Alison Brown, Murphy Henry, “Bashful Brother” Oswald Kirby, and the International Bluegrass Music Museum, Pete Wernick introduced Steve with a comedy routine…

… while Steve played it largely straight in accepting.

Thanks to Steve Ide for the videos, which he shot from his seat at the Special Awards luncheon. Steve is a professional videographer who serves as Media Crew Chief for the Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival.
