Pass the hat for Annie Nice

Annie NiceThat’s the title of a GoFundMe page set up to benefit Annie Nice, a prominent member of the music community in Raleigh, NC.

Bluegrass artists and fans will recognize Annie as the long time manager of Tir Na Nog, an Irish pub in downtown Raleigh that regularly featured live bluegrass music in the restaurant. They also served as a Bluegrass Ramble venue during IBMA’s World of Bluegrass week, and many WOB attendees will recall the lively, friendly atmosphere she maintained at the club.

The crowdsourcing site was established after news came out that Nice was viciously attacked just steps from her home this past Tuesday night. Someone came up behind her and struck her on the back of the head. She was then grabbed and dragged some distance by a group of three young attackers.

She has been released from the hospital but must wear a surgical neck brace for the next eight weeks, and may require surgery to repair damaged ligaments.

Funds are being raised with an eye towards helping support Annie and her daughter, Roxanne, during this time of recovery. Since Tir Na Nog closed down, she has been working as a Managing Partner with The Hibernian Pub, and building up a new company she founded, Irish Mother Productions, a wedding and event planning business.

Annie is a native of Ireland who has lived in Raleigh for many years. She is a fierce advocate for all things Irish, including notably, the traditional music of her homeland.

A goal of $10,000 on GoFundMe has reached pledges of $7,500 as of this writing. If you have warm feelings for Annie Nice, you may want to add yours to the pot.

Very best wishes to Annie in her recovery and future endeavors.
