Nuts and Bolts of Songwriting by Niall Toner

The Nuts and Bolts of Songwriting by Niall TonerIrish songwriter Niall Toner has written a book about his chosen profession, set for a June 8 launch at The Borris House Festival of Writing and Ideas, held during the Carlow Arts Festival in County Carlow, in the southeast of Ireland.

The Nuts and Bolts of Songwriting is the culmination of Niall’s four decades of experience in the trenches. He tells us that…

“It’s a basic guide to the craft of writing songs, as seen from my own personal perspective. It doesn’t claim to be the Bible of writing, but I try to tell folks how I do it, and how I have learned from some of the greats over the past 40 years.

There are examples of songs I have had cut by The Nashville Bluegrass Band, Special Consensus, Albert Lee and Bill Wyman. The main emphasis is slanted towards writing in bluegrass and traditional country styles, although I have always believed that a good song is a good song, regardless of genre.”

We’ll surely have more to say about this book when we get a copy next month.
