Newtown to Pisgah Ridge

Newtown signs with Pisgah Ridge: C.J. Cain, Kati Penn-Williams, Producer Tim Surrett, Terry Poirier, Jr. Williams Kentucky-based Newtown has just signed with Crossroads Music’s Pisgah Ridge Records.

The band, formerly billed as Kati Penn & Newtown, features Kati Penn-Williams on fiddle, along with her husband Jr. Williams on banjo, Terry Poirier on bass, C.J. Cain on guitar, and Clint Hurd on mandolin. Jr., Kati, and Terry handle the bulk of the lead vocals.

They will get started on a new project in June, recording at the Crossroads studio in North Carolina, with Balsam Range’s Tim Surrett producing.

Jr. tells us that this album will be heavy on band originals, with as many as five of the tracks written by Cain. The band is especially excited about The Thin Red Line, one C.J. wrote about his grandfather and the time he spent serving in the South Pacific during World War II.

For his part, Cain sees their new label partner as a good match for the band.

“We are really excited about working with Pisgah Ridge on our sophomore project. They are the perfect fit to facilitate the direction we want to go with this release. We can’t wait to get it to the fans!”

They hope to have the new record out before World of Bluegrass in late September.
