Mountain Heart does Steely Dan

If we told you that a bluegrass-related group had recorded a cover of a Steely Dan song, and gave you three guesses who it might have been, not many folks would need all three.

Yep, it’s Mountain Heart, who delivered their version of Reelin’ In The Years at Music City Roots on April 20 in Nashville. The song was a radio hit for Donald Fagen and Walter Becker of Steely Dan, and was most people’s first exposure to the band’s quirky style of jazz-inflected pop/rock music in 1973.

Here, Molly Cherryholmes lends her sultry contralto to the song, with Seth Taylor reproducing Elliott Randall’s iconic guitar solo.

Nicely done.

Mountain Faith’s new album, Blue Skies, is available now.
