Mary Meyer video for War Against Silence

Mary Meyer - photo by David MyerJust when you think the talented Meyer family from Missouri has infiltrated every corner of bluegrass music, we see this new video of Mary Meyer produced by Corey Smith and War Against Silence to prove there’s even more to this musical clan than we’ve seen so far.

We’ve watched Mary on mandolin with her brothers in MeyerBand for several years, and seen her filling in with Loose Strings at Galax. She’s obviously a capable bluegrass musician but she only rarely, if ever, took the lead singing role on stage.

Corey’s War Against Silence YouTube channel is filled with custom music videos he has shot and edited for friends, simply for the love of the process – and the music. This one finds Mary with a banjo, performing an acoustic cover arrangement of independent artist Ben Rector’s song, Wildfire.

Corey also recorded the audio track, where he says Mary plays most all of the instruments, with Smith on guitar. On top of his video and recording efforts, Corey is guitarist with Ash Breeze, working with his brothers and sister.

If that’s not star quality, I don’t know what is.

These days Mary is touring with The Harper Family and, while MeyerBand would seem to be kaput, she says that she and her brothers still make music together.
