Major award for Brandon Rickman

Brandon Rickman - Young Man, Old SoulBradon Rickman, head crooner and guitarist with Lonesome River Band, has been chosen as the recipient of the Spirit Award’s Song Of The Year for 2010. These awards are given by Strictly Country magazine based on fan voting, and the editors report that Wearin’ Her Knees Out Over Me, from Brandon’s Young Man, Old Soul album, was the overwhelming winner this year.

Brandon is understandably excited about this news..

“Wow, I was really surprised and very honored to learn of this award. I wrote this song with Jerry Salley and Justin David – we are all thrilled with this award! It is an honor to be included with such a who’s who list of the Strictly Country award winners!”

Strictly Country prides themselves on covering all angles of the country music world – including bluegrass, of course. They like to say that the Spirit Awards are the only fan voted awards with a 360 degree view of country music.

Other winners for 2010 include Taylor Swift and Brad Paisley as the Male and Female Vocalists of the year, and Wynonna Judd as Entertainer of the Decade.

Though the magazine is distributed nationally and internationally, the focus is regional. From the 2010 Spirit Award press release:

This year, marks the fifteenth anniversary of the Spirit Awards. The Spirit Awards began as an opportunity for any country music entertainer to be nominated. To earn a nomination, each country music entertainer must have performed or made a public appearance within a designated area of the Twin Cities of St. Paul and Minneapolis, Minnesota. The awards then give the public the opportunity to vote for their favorite country music entertainer. This year fans were able to choose from fifty-two nominees.

Congrats to Brandon for this recognition!
