John Cowan is the latest Nashville music celebrity with a bluegrass connection to launch a recurring program on WSM radio. Mountain Heart also has a featured spot once a month.
The debut edition of John Cowan Presents: I Believe To My Soul will air this afternoon (3/15) at 3:00 p.m. (EDT), 2:00 p.m. Nashville time. It is currently scheduled to run in this slot on the third Thursday of each month.
Cowan promises in-depth interviews in each program, drawn from his impressive coterie of friends in the business. This afternoon’s show will feature a discussion with rock/pop legend Leon Russell, who helped catapult New Grass Revival to mainstream popularity when John had recently joined the band in the 1970s. Russell took New Grass out as his opening act at the height of his popularity, bringing them back during his set to perform material he had recorded with a bluegrass flavor.
The massive WSM signal reaches a large portion of the US at 650 AM, and is carried live on the Internet at wsmonline.com.
