Galax mandolin record confirmed

Event Details

We have learned from Tara Linhardt that the attempt to break the record for the largest mandolin ensemble at the 2012 Old Fiddlers Convention in Galax has been certified by Guinness as the new world mark.

On August 7, 2012 she and her team of mando-marshals successfully assembled and led a group of 389 mandolinists through three tunes, besting the previous record by 6 pickers. Linhardt submitted the necessary documentary evidence of their efforts to the folks at the Guinness Book of Records, and yesterday she received notice that the Galax ensemble now holds the World Record.

Here’s the video report John Goad sent from Galax in August with an on-the-scene look at the proceedings.

You can see the record listed on the Guinness Book web site.

Congratulations yet again to Tara, her crew of volunteers, and all 389 mandolinists who participated!
