For IBMA, New Venue, New Leadership

IBMAIBMA will kick off its first World of Bluegrass conference in Raleigh with new leadership.

A new chairman will be elected by the board of directors Tuesday morning, the first full day of conference activities. While other candidates will be discussed, it appears that Vice Chairman Jon Weisberger will be chosen to succeed Stan Zdonik, who is ineligible to run again.

While portions of the board’s meetings are open to the membership, Zdonik said any debate about the candidates and the vote are likely to be held behind closed doors to allow for a frank discussion. The fact that Zdonik’s term is ending and that a new chairman will be elected this week have not been widely publicized to the membership, so the election will take place with little input from rank-and-file members.

Weisberger is a journalist, a songwriter and the bass player for Chris Jones and the Night Drivers. He received IBMA’s inaugural songwriter of the year award last year.
