First Port – Cozumel Mexico

Lorraine Jordan and Julie King have agreed to send along a bluegrass travelogue this week from the First Quality Bluegrass Cruise, underway now in the Caribbean. To read all of their reports, just follow this link.

The Dream docked at 10:00 a.m. today, followed by a lovely stroll through the waterway between Mexico and the Isle of Cozumel at daylight. After being on board since Sunday, everyone was ready to touch land again, and with some anticipation.

Lorraine Jordan, her parents, some of her band members, and numerous fans, joined James and myself for a tour of the island via moped. We literally drove the coastline from Punta Maya to Punta Sur (25 km) seeing some of Cozumel’s most beautiful jungles and forests, along with endless seashore. The volcanic reef is a sight to see in itself.

After spending the day on the Isle, dinner was again a delight, and most immaculate. This evening was cruise casual attire.

Bands playing tonight are, our hosts, The Bluegrass Mountaineers, along with Tim Graves, Karl Shifflett & Big Country Show, and Goldwing Express.

We’re gearing up for tomorrow night’s Halloween show and costume contest. Carnival and First Quality Cruise and Travel will be giving prizes for the best costume. Both musicians and fans have gone all out this year, trying to win the grand prize.

We will port in Belize on Wednesday. A group has planned a trip to the Belize Natural Zoo, while some are taking in the duty free shopping, and others have planned a day of resting on the white, sandy beaches.

I have included a couple pictures from todays journey through Cozumel. We hope you all enjoy.

Again, many thoughts are going out from our bluegrass family to yours, because of the devestation Hurricane Sandy left on this great nation.

….Belize by morning,

Happy Sailing,

Julie
