Del McCoury goes into syndication

The Del McCoury Band with Cindy Baucom and John Boy & BillyMr. Bluegrass is going into syndication. Del McCoury has had a successful five year run on SiriusXM with his radio show, Hand-Picked with Del McCoury, but now with the help of John Boy and Billy Radio, he is moving into mainstream syndication. The transition from satellite to local terrestrial radio stations won’t happen overnight, these things take a while, but McCoury’s show will be appearing on local radio stations before the end of 2010.

The show’s format will be retooled to place more emphasis on McCoury’s wealth of stories from his lifetime spent at the forefront of the bluegrass music industry. Del will share with his listeners stories about places, events, and persons he has experienced over the last several decades. This new spotlight on the stories surrounding the music doesn’t mean the music itself won’t still be the central theme of the show. Del will continue to feature his signature mixture of “hand-picked” traditional, contemporary, and progressive bluegrass music recorded by both legends and newcomers.

Del recently celebrated his 50th year in bluegrass. He and his band have recorded 16 albums, earned Grammy awards, won nine Entertainer of the Year awards from the IBMA, and been a member of the Grand Ole Opry. Del has reached audiences not normally available to bluegrass musicians. He has served as an adept ambassador for the music. This new partnership is sure to give McCoury another grand opportunity to continue in that role.

After almost 30 years as a morning show team, John Boy & Billy have often featured special in-studio guests from a variety of musical genres, including the Del McCoury Band, Earl Scruggs, Jerry Douglas and Dolly Parton. Appearances such as these gave John Boy & Billy and their CEO, Ed Lowe, a desire to promote bluegrass and acoustic music on a regular basis. Their solution in early 2003 was to put Cindy Baucom’s Knee-Deep In Bluegrass into syndication. With the addition of Del McCoury’s show, several thousand more listeners each week will have the opportunity to enjoy Del McCoury’s stories and his favorite music.

With the addition of the Del McCoury show new radio affiliations and a limited number of sponsorships will become available. For more information on these, contact:
