Clay Hess & Tim Shelton team up for 2017

Clay Hess and Tim SheltonClay Hess and Tim Shelton, a pair of noted Ohio grassers, have announced their intention to tour together in 2017. They are setting to work now on a new recording, and are accepting dates for next year now with their trio, which will include Hess’ son, Brennan, on bass.

Hess first came to bluegrass prominence as guitarist with Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder, going on to work with Mountain Heart and Sierra Hull before forming his own group, The Clay Hess Band. He is recognized as one of the finest producers and studio engineers in the central US as well as a fine songwriter and singer. Clay also plays mandolin and banjo at a professional level.

Shelton made his mark as the lead singer and guitarist with NewFound Road who recorded for Rounder Records for several years before disbanding in 2013. He has since released a solo project of more Americana-themed music and is itching to get back on stage again. His silky baritone voice has won him plaudits from fans and critics alike.

Tim tells us that their new show will mix Americana, contemporary folk, and bluegrass music. But as he put it, when they do bluegrass, “there will be no question it’s bluegrass!”

Hess will continue to perform with his Clay Hess Band as well.

Tim suggests that anyone who would like to inquire about booking Clay Hess & Tim Shelton should contact him by email.
