Chad Gilbert to Turning Ground

turning_gropundWe heard last week from Kentucky banjo player Mike Daniels, who shared that Chad Gilbert had joined his band, Turning Ground. Chad is playing bass, and had been working with Tommy Webb, and with New River Line before that.

Nathan Arnett and Ralph Adams are on guitar, with Jonathon Arnett on mandolin. Mike tells us that he is having a blast playing with these young folks, after having semi-retired from bluegrass a few years ago.

“I joke and say these boys brought me out of retirement. After 14 years with Hylo Brown, 4 years with Emma Smith and then another 10 with a regional band out of Ohio, I hung it up for about 3 years and didn’t know if I wanted to do it anymore… until they found me.”

The band has been together just over a year, and has released a debut CD, March 2, 2012, which showcases  original songs written within the band and their strong vocal harmony.

Turning Ground works primarily in and around Kentucky, and you can find their schedule online.
