Calling all Squidbillies
The Welfare Liners from Athens, GA have a new CD about to hit. Formed in 2010, the band’s second album, High On A Hilltop, is due on September 18.
But what really has the guys stoked right now is being featured in a television commercial on the Adult Swim network, which runs in the evenings and overnight on the Cartoon Network cable/satellite feed.
Fans of the show Squidbillies, the band recorded their own bluegrass version of the show’s theme, and it ended up being used in a promotional spot for a cover song video contest.
The show’s bizarre premise is a family of talking, landlubbing “mud squids” living in the mountains of Georgia, hence the name. It has found a wide audience, and elevated Atlanta-based animation studio Radical Axis to notoriety.
Here is The Welfare Liners version of the theme…
…and the commercial that put them on the cartoon map:
Good luck Welfare Liners, in the video contest on Adult Swim!
