Bluegrass: Funnier Than It Sounds coming soon

Rick CornishA few months ago we told you about a book of bluegrass cartoons from Rick Cornish that would soon be available. Rick is a lifetime member of the California Bluegrass Association, a determined bluegrass picker, and an amateur humorist and cartoonist.

Well, he’s about to go pro with the imminent publication of Bluegrass: Funnier Than It Sounds, expected sometime early in 2017. The book will be filled with Rick’s original cartoons which depict the life of the bluegrass fan and closet picker as they try to navigate a world where no one understands the primacy of The Stanley Brothers, your spouse can’t grasp the value in a $7,000 mandolin, and even your pets are out to stop you from practicing your fiddle.

If you can see humor in that sort of situation, Cornish is likely to tickle your funny bone.

He’s been drawing and sharing bluegrass cartoons for some time, both on the CBA web site and his own Facebook page, starting with simply adding new captions to previously-published drawings, before eventually branching out into creating new ones himself. And like so many folks in bluegrass, his efforts to simply entertain himself and a small circle of friends is about to take off into an actual book of published cartoons.

As a tease before the book gets here, Rick agreed to let us share a couple of his sketches here at Bluegrass Today.
