Bluegrass benefit for Buck Green

John "Buck" GreenWe have another grasser in need, for whom friends have organized a benefit concert to help defray medical bills, associated costs and lost income.

Regular readers will recall seeing news of John “Buckwheat” Green suffering a heart attack back in November of 2013. Good fortune got him to the hospital in time, where he underwent successful quadruple bypass surgery two days later.

Buck, as he is known to friends, plays bass with Jim & Valerie Gabehart, and has a long history as a songwriter and bluegrass musician in his native West Virginia. He is also a former member of Lonesome River Band, and an occasional contributor to Bluegrass Today.

A complete recovery is expected, and Buck is doing well, but has been unable to work since November, either with the band or in his day job. So friends are banding together to help where they can.

The benefit is scheduled for this coming Friday, January 24, at Barnyard Barbeque in Teays Valley, WV from 7:00-10:00 p.m. There will be food and fun, plus music from the Gabeharts, Brandon Shuping and many of Buck’s friends all evening. Admission is free, and donations will be accepted.

For those who can’t make the show, and would like to make a donation, send a check payable to John Green to:

Jim Gabehart
610 Trace Creek Road
Hamlin, WV 25523

Buck is not only a solid musician and singer, he is a loyal supporter of bluegrass music and a fine man. Please help if you can.
