Bear on the Square changes 2017 dates

Bear on the SquareThe 21st annual Bear on the Square Mountain Festival in Dahlonega, GA has moved its dates from the normal 3rd weekend in April, to avoid occurring over Easter weekend. Next year’s festival has moved to the 4th weekend, April 22-23, 2017.

The free downtown event is held at Dahlonega’s Historic Public Square, with live bluegrass and old-time music, mountain crafts, storytelling, workshops and demonstrations, and a a juried Artists Market Place. In general, its a celebration of southern Appalachian culture, supported by area businesses and donors.

Friends of Bear allows residents and supporters of the festival to offer tax-deductible support.

The 2017 artist lineup has yet to be announced, but there’s always lots of jamming on the square on the Friday night before the festival begins.

Appalachian music lovers in north Georgia and western North Carolina are advised to mark down the 4th weekend in April next spring and make plans to attend the 21st annual Bear on the Square.
