Arrangements for Bobby Slone

Bobby SloneA quick update on the death of long-time fiddler and bass player Bobby Sloan, who died on August 12 from rectal cancer at 77 years of age.

Knowing of the seriousness of his health, Bobby Slone had previously requested that at the time of his passing, an old fashioned Gospel singing be held in his memory. Many of his friends from the bluegrass music world will do just that tomorrow (8/14) at Bailey’s Funeral Home in Elkhorn City, KY.

Guests will be welcomed at 6:00 p.m. with singing set to begin around 7:00. Doyle Lawson will be coming with his quartet, as will Don Rigsby, Robert Hale, J.D. Crowe, and Steve and Debbie Gulley. The family wants everyone to understand that this is not meant as a performance, but a tribute to a dear friend by those who knew and loved him in the music world.

A funeral is scheduled for Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, followed by burial at the Dow Brooks cemetery.

Our remembrance of Bobby will be posted here soon.
